Esher Junior Cricket 2020

We would like to invite you to join and renew your Young Cricketer’s Esher CC membership for 2020.  Registration is available via our website shop.

Esher CC membership comprises access to one of the best cricket grounds in Surrey including four youth cricket squares.  In addition, we are very pleased to announce that the Esher cricket net facility has been refurbished with a newly laid surface and extended bays.  The nets look fantastic. The club has also invested in an all-weather artificial wicket adjoining the Littleworth Road Youth Square.  These additional investments made at New Road ensures we continue to enjoy the best playing facilities available in the area.

For many of our young cricketers, the preparation for this year’s season got underway back in November when winter nets began at Claremont Fan Court School.  It is splendid to see such a high level of participation in cricket over the winter months, which bodes well for this coming season.

Last season,  the club decided to move to coloured playing kit for the youth section. Both the Playing Shirt and Coloured Playing Trouser have been discounted for youth sizes, please see link to our shop. – The Chairman will expect all youth cricketers to be using the above kit when representing Esher Cricket Club in matches for the 2020 season.

For many years, Esher CC youth cricket teams have achieved tremendous success across all age groups and leagues.  This is in no doubt down to the very best coaching that Esher CC delivers.  Whilst we rely on parental support for team management and administration we are proud to be able to exclusively offer professional coaching of the highest calibre rather than relying on volunteers to coach our young children.  It is this professional approach to coaching that enables Esher CC to stand out among other clubs in the area.  We aim to coach in small groups well within the club mark guidelines to provide the best possible coaching outcomes for our young cricketers.  Esher CC prides itself in coaching cricketers for life.

Our young cricketers are extremely fortunate to have Duncan Pauline directing the coaching.  Duncan is one of the most experienced coaches of youth cricket in England and has been recognised by Surrey CC for his contribution to the sport.  Duncan played over 100 First Class and List A matches over his career for Surrey CCC.  Duncan is also the most successful all-rounder in the history of top flight Surrey Club Cricket, he has been involved with the club for 25 years and coaching cricket for more than 40 yrs.

As a former Surrey player, he works closely with the Surrey CC performance department to support the development of youth cricket across Surrey.  As a club, Esher CC boasts one of the highest number of young cricketers participating in the Surrey CC performance programme. Over 50 youth cricketers last season!

Duncan is ably supported by a team of coaching staff led by Sohail Ahmed (Pakistan A and Lahore).  Sohail has played / coached cricket at Esher CC for the last 13 years, he also has played over 100 First Class and List A matches.  While playing at Esher he was the highest scoring batsmen in the Surrey Championship.  He has great knowledge of the game and is dedicated to assisting Esher’s young cricketers improve their cricket. Khurram Irshad the U7’s lead coach and mid-week coach has played 1st Class cricket in Pakistan, represented Pakistan “A” and was part of their elite academy.

Ben Collins heads up the coaching for the girls section and is another lead coach, Ben has played for England U19’s, Leicestershire 2’s and for England Amateurs. Ben also plays for the 1st XI at Esher in the Surrey Premier League

In all, Esher CC last season appointed a coaching staff that altogether had played over 250 First Class Matches.  No other Club or County can come close to the experience we can offer.

Esher CC firmly believe in continuously developing the youth cricket programme and the age group managers (AGMs), coaching team and club volunteers are preparing for a successful 2020 season.

Surrey County Cricket Club have introduced a new county wide league and cup structure, replacing all the traditional leagues. The Youth Cricket Committee have carefully considered the best competitions for each age group,  so that all cricketers in all age groups have the opportunity to play plenty of competitive matches, correct for the YC’s current level of development.

The club management team are confident that the continued investment in time and resources ensure the standard of youth development, competitive cricket and facilities at Esher CC are second to none.  We are proud of the clubs continued ECB endorsement by way of our “Clubmark” accreditation.
